“The Storms A Coming”

In the San Francisco Bay Area, the last couple of weeks have felt more like April than February. Crystal clear blue skies, bright sun, temperatures in the 60′s. So alas, all good things must come to an end. When I checked the weather today, and saw the next 6 days call for heavy rain, I decided I had to try to get one last good sunset in before the storm. So I threw the camera, the tripod, and the dog in the car and sped on down to Rodeo Beach in Sausalito. I had aover an hour to spare before the sunset, so I spent most of that time taking shots of the surfers, who, judging by the large number of them in the water, had the same “now or never” attitude when they checked the weather forcast.

“Sunset On The Dunes”

I just got back from a quick 48 hour stay in Death Valley National Park. In 48 hours, I took Sunrise photos at Zabriskie Point, sunset photos at Badwater (The lowest point in the western Hemisphere at -288 feet below sea level), Drove the beautiful “Artist Drive”, off roaded the 26 mile road of Titus Canyon (probably the highlight of the trip), hiked the amazing Golden and Mosiac Canyons, and last but not least, caught a sunset on the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes.

Sand Dunes are everything you would think they would be. Beautiful, amazing quiet places that can be unforgiving and dangerous. It’s easy to imagine yourself in one of those movies you see, where your wandering the hot desert, lost, walking around in circles, desperate for water. I almost started hallucinating, and it was only 80 degrees, and I only hiked about 2 miles!
Have I said how much I love working for Commodore Events? Part of my job requires me to be on boats in the middle of the San Francisco Bay on beautiful May days with amazing sunsets falling behind the Bay Bridge. Life is rough. I am actually very happy I was able to get this photo as clear as it is, since the very choppy condition of the water made for an incredibly difficult shoot. This was probably the most challenging shoot of my career, but obviously, well worth it!
