"The Graffiti through the T-1000"

When I look at this photo, I can't help but think of the bad ass T-1000 Terminator in the movie Terminator 2. You know, the Governator would shoot him with a shotgun, or run over him with a garbage truck, and this unstoppable force of awesomeness would turn liquid metal and quickly regenerate. This scenes is right about when he get shot in the shoulder with Ahnald's shotgun.

The metal is actually a deteriorating door at a old Army bunker in the Marin Headlands, Sausalito, California.
“The Storms A Coming”

In the San Francisco Bay Area, the last couple of weeks have felt more like April than February. Crystal clear blue skies, bright sun, temperatures in the 60′s. So alas, all good things must come to an end. When I checked the weather today, and saw the next 6 days call for heavy rain, I decided I had to try to get one last good sunset in before the storm. So I threw the camera, the tripod, and the dog in the car and sped on down to Rodeo Beach in Sausalito. I had aover an hour to spare before the sunset, so I spent most of that time taking shots of the surfers, who, judging by the large number of them in the water, had the same “now or never” attitude when they checked the weather forcast.
“Cavallo Point Sunset”

Last night, I found myself heading to the Adobe headquarters to participate in a Photoshop user group demonstration by the knowledgeable and very entertaining, Russell Brown. Check out his Adobe Photoshop tips and tricks here. Learned some cool stuff! Plus he has a TON of very cool photoshop actions, that he makes available for everyone to download (such as being able to create a star trails photo, with just one star photo!)

Anyway, I had some time to spare before heading into San Francisco, so I decided to stop at Cavallo Point in Sausalito, to catch some sunset shots of the city and the Golden Gate Bridge. This was the very first photo I took when I got out of my car, and as far as I can tell, the best of the shoot!
“Golden Seagull”

For some reason, I have been obsessed with photographing birds lately. I think maybe it’s the challenge? Chasing a fast flying bird with your camera, trying to get the frame right, with a fast enough shutter to make sure there is no blur. Timing a shot just right to get the landing. The whole art of shooting birds (and wildlife in general) is fun, challenging, and extremely rewarding.

Luckily, everything I describe above doesn’t pertain to this shot, because luckily this guy didn’t move. I actually like to think he was posing for me. “Hey, look, let me go stand on this rail right in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and give you a nice side look. That would look cool for you, right?”

Thanks little guy. It does look cool

“The James Bond Yacht”

It takes a couple different factors to be able to get good photographs. Good DSLR, Better Lenses, Good Photographer’s Eye, Motivation, etc. But more so than ANY of these, most great photos (especially anything with moving parts) involves alot of luck. Which I had alot of for this shot!

This is the $300 million dollar, 390 foot yacht owned by the Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko. It was spotted anchored off the coast of Sausalito, in perfect view of the thousands of tourists who stroll down Bridgeway on a daily basis.

On Friday, I drove down to Sausalito to try to get some shots of the yacht before it took off for it’s next exotic destination. Of course, it was gray and foggy. Another typical San Francisco summer day! After snapping some HDRs of the massive sea vessel from different angles and focal length, I noticed the billionaire’s personal helicopter coming in fast for a landing! I quickly adjusted my settings and my tripod, and snapped this photo seconds before the copter was touched down for good. It wasn’t until after I looked on my viewfinder did I notice the “Adventure Cat” sailboat perfectly centered in front of the yacht, with all the occupants in awe over what they were seeing. Alcatraz island on the right side of the frame was an added bonus!

Here is an article from the WSJ about the yacht.
